Founder’s Message for One Dollar for Change

Hi, I’m Christian Martinez, the founder of One Dollar for Change. I want to take a moment to explain why this organization exists and what we’re building together.

I’ve always believed that helping people shouldn’t be complicated, slow, or tied up in red tape. Too often, families, individuals, and small businesses fall through the cracks because they don’t meet the strict requirements of traditional assistance programs. And many times, all someone needs is a small amount of help at the right moment—whether that’s food on the table, keeping the lights on, or getting through an unexpected expense.

That’s where One Dollar for Change comes in.

This nonprofit is built on a simple idea: when enough people give just one dollar, real help becomes possible. Meals are our starting point, but our mission goes beyond food. We focus on meeting urgent, real-life needs as they come up—based on available funds and immediate impact.

At this stage, I personally cover all operating and administrative costs so donations can go directly toward helping people. I’ve been funding this work myself while we build something sustainable, transparent, and rooted in community trust.

We currently serve people here in Yuma, Arizona, and we’re taking intentional steps to grow responsibly. My goal isn’t to build something flashy—it’s to build something that works, something people can believe in, and something that proves small acts of generosity still matter.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for believing that one dollar, when combined with others, can truly change lives.
